Kerry Way Hostel      

 DARRYNANE BAY   (NEARBY TO KERRY WAY HOSTEL)

The setup in this small "hostel type" accommodation is more suited to traveling couples or 2 friends as each of the two  private units is geared towards an occupancy capacity of 2 people. It is ideally suited for an overnight stop for people who may be touring Kerry on  bicycles or simply on a walking tour of the "Kerry Way". However, if there are more than 2 people in your party but no more than 4 people (e.g. a family) and you are still keen or interested in either of the units then you should make prior contact with the hostel to discuss the logistics and  rates. Each of the units has a W.C., its own separate entrance, simple cooking facilities and utensils and seating for up to 4 people. However, having more than 2 people decreases the comfort level space-wise as each unit measures circa 26 square metres. Presently only the upper unit is ready for occupancy for 2009 season.

Walking to the local village (Caherdaniel) via the Kerry Way would take circa 20 minutes or, alternatively, biking  it via the local road to the village would take circa 10 minutes. Generally, the same times would also apply in getting to the local  beaches (blue flag) or to the nearby Darrynane National Park. There is no "communal area" associated with this "hostel type" accommodation........... except for the grassed area outside of the upper unit which is described in the next paragraph. The upper unit has one bedroom with 2 separate beds....each 4 ft. (1.2 metres.) wide. The unit has a small cooking area, a fridge, a sink and WC. The appending living / eating area completes the description of this unit. (A sofa / futon in the living area of the upper unit can convert to a bed if necessary).

Immediately outside of the upper  unit is a raised grassed area which can be used for outdoor eating / picnicking etc. It can also be used to simply relax and take in some of the local views of sea, valleys, mountains and sky. People staying in the lower unit are also entitled to access and use this area and in that sense it is a "communal" area. The lower (ground floor) unit has one bedroom with 1 double bed. It has a small cooking area, fridge, sink and W.C. The appending living and eating area completes the description of this unit. Neither unit has a built in shower but an outside solar heated type shower is under consideration. The "hostel type" accommodation units are located beside, but separate from, the residence of the owners / operators.

A "No Smoking" policy is strictly enforced within both hostel units.

 € 35 euros per night per hostel unit based on an occupancy of 2 people. ( Cost = Circa € 17.50 per person).           

More than 2 people occupying any unit reduces the per person cost. (e.g. A party of 3 persons would be € 45 euros per hostel unit.) 

However, preference will always be given to the ideal party number..... i.e. two people.
